About

Allyson Manchester

I am an English teacher and college counselor located in Falmouth, MA.

I graduated from Stonehill College in 2011 with a BA in English and from Boston College in 2013 with an MA in English. After receiving a teaching fellowship in graduate school, I became an adjunct instructor and taught writing composition at three different colleges in Boston: Boston College, Emmanuel College, and Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. I then relocated to Cape Cod to teach high school English at Falmouth Academy.

Several years into this position, I accepted additional responsibility as a guidance counselor. Little did I know, this new role would change my life! I was lucky to attend the Harvard Summer Institute of College Admissions, receive mentorship from two veteran counselors, work with dozens of college admissions representatives, and author a guest column on the college process for our local newspaper. I developed a passion for researching and staying current with the ever-changing landscape of college admissions. Eventually, I became the Director of College Counseling at Falmouth Academy. In working with a large number of students and families, I discovered my superpower of simplifying the college process and increasing access to higher education.

I bring a teacher’s rigor and a counselor’s compassion to my work in college guidance. When mentoring students who are in the midst of this major transition, I encourage them to ignore the “noise” of competitive college admissions and, instead, to use their own preferences and values as the guiding framework. I view critical thinking and writing as the core components of the college process. My deep experience in literary study defines my approach to college counseling.

I now work as an English teacher in the Falmouth Public Schools and proudly offer college guidance services on a private basis. Over the past 11 years, I have helped hundreds of students to find fulfillment and success. I look forward to working together!
